FOR years, molecular biologists and geneticists have trod gingerly around the most explosive topic of the new reproductive biology: purposely making genetic changes in people that would persist for generation after generation
" It will, some day, be possible to give people genes to prevent them from developing certain diseases or to cure them of diseases that stubbornly resist treatment, like cancer or AIDS."
The scientists are hoping to begin work on genetically modifying/replacing/adding genes in people in the hopes that the modifications would be passed down through generations eventually make vast majorities of the population immune to many of the diseases that plague man today.
I could see this doing some major good in the world..but it has a dark side to it..what could people do with this if it were in the wrong hands? How are we to keep people from simply playing God? This could do great good, but evil could come of it and ruin all the good it could possibly do.
