article imageBob Dylan's electric guitar sells for nearly a million dollars

By Owen Weldon     Dec 8, 2013 in Entertainment
A guitar that was once owned by Bob Dylan has sold for $965,000 on Friday at an auction, setting a new world auction record for any guitar.
According to CNN, a Christie's spokesperson said that an unidentified bidder bought the 1964 Fender Stratocaster.
CBS reports that Christie's didn't expect to sell the guitar for that much money. They expected it to sell for between $300,000-$500,000.
Dylan was 24 when he played the guitar at the Newport, Rhode Island, Folk Festival. It was the first time that Dylan was backed by an electric band, UPI says.
The auction house said that when the announcement about the guitar going up for sale was made, there was interest worldwide.
After the folk festival Dylan boarded a private plane, and left the guitar on it. The pilot of that plane kept the guitar and it has been in the family's possession ever since.
