Yesterday, the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station
announced the arrest of Jameson Witty, 18. Another man, whose identity has not been released, is expected to surrender in the alleged theft.
After the accident in which
Fast and Furious star Paul Walker, 40, and financial advisor Roger Rodas, 38, were killed last Saturday, what was left of the Porsche Rodas was driving was loaded on to a flatbed tow truck around
10 p.m. to be taken to an impound yard.
According to the Sheriff's Office, a witness saw a car following behind the tow truck. When the truck was stopped at a red light, a male left the car, went to the tow truck and removed part of the Porsche, the
T-top roof panel. He then returned to the car that sped away. The theft was witnessed by the tow truck driver who then called police.
Police executed search warrants at a Canyon County residence and recovered the missing car parts. Jameson Witty was arrested and taken into custody although he has not yet been formally charged. Police are not saying what exactly led them to Witty.
The 25-year-old is outside California but informed authorities he will surrender.
The 2005 Porsche Carrera GT crashed into a light pole and a tree before bursting into flames. As
Digital Journal reported, the coroner determined Rodas died as a result of traumatic injuries while Walker died from a combination of the impact and the fire that engulfed the car moments after the crash. Although the cause of the accident is still under investigation, it is believed speed was a factor. Both men were declared dead immediately after firefighters extinguished the flames.
It is anticipated both Witty and the 25-year-old will be charged with felony grand theft and tampering with evidence.
