Los Angeles - An autopsy showed "Fast & Furious" star Paul Walker initially survived the horrific impact of the car crash but died moments later when the car burst into flames.
CNN reported that a one-page preliminary report released by the Los Angeles County coroner's office Wednesday listed the cause of the actor's death as the "combined effects of traumatic and thermal injuries."
And an autopsy performed by a different doctor concluded that Roger Rodas, who was driving the red Porsche Carerra GT, died from "multiple traumatic injuries."
The men “died within seconds” of the collision, coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter said, KTLA reported.
Walker, 40, a passenger in the car driven by his friend and financial adviser Rodas, 38, were located inside the 2005 Porsche Carrera GT after it smashed into a light pole and tree then exploded in flames. They were pronounced dead at the scene after Los Angeles County firefighters extinguished the fire, authorities said.
Sheriff's investigators are still trying to determine exactly what caused Rodas to careen out of control. They have said speed was a factor, CNN said.
The deaths were officially ruled an accident, coroner’s officials said.
Universal shuts down 'Fast & Furious 7
Meanwhile, Universal Pictures has shut down production on "Fast & Furious 7."
Walker starred in all but one of the six "Fast & Furious" blockbuster films that glorified fast cars and dangerous driving.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, a statement from a Universal spokesperson reads:
“Right now, all of us at Universal are dedicated to providing support to Paul’s immediate family and our extended Fast & Furious family of cast, crew and filmmakers. At this time we feel it is our responsibility to shut down production on Fast & Furious 7 for a period of time so we can assess all options available to move forward with the franchise.
“We are committed to keeping Fast & Furious fans informed, and we will provide further information to them when we have it. Until then, we know they join us in mourning the passing of our dear friend Paul Walker.”
The film, which also stars Vin Diesel, Jordana Brewster and Michelle Rodriguez, was originally due to hit theaters on July 11.
