article imageMan accidentally chucks away $7.5 million in Bitcoins

By Owen Weldon     Nov 30, 2013 in World
James Howells, a British IT professional, mined 7,500 Bitcoins in 2009. He eventually forgot about them and then he threw away the hard drive they were stored on.
The Bitcoins that were stored on the hard drive are now worth around $7.5 million.
According to Forbes, Howells threw out the hard drive over the summer but now he cannot find it because it is buried under about four feet of trash at a landfill.
According to Yahoo, Howells said that he forgot about his stash of Bitcoins because he got distracted with family live and he moved house. Howells has also checked all of his back-up files but he has had no success.
Howells has taken it on the chin, and said that he has created a new Bitcoin wallet, where he can safely store his Bitcoins, and he has asked for help from anyone who might feel sorry for him.
Bitcoin was launched in 2009, and it can be exchanged online for real money or to buy services and goods on the Internet. The virtual currency is not regulated by any government.
