article imageBlood glucose strips recalled

By Tim Sandle     Nov 29, 2013 in Health
A recall of 20 lots of FreeStyle and FreeStyle Lite Blood Glucose Test Strips from the U.S. market has been called for. This is because the strips are faulty.
The reason for the recall is because the test strips may produce erroneously low blood glucose results when used with both "FreeStyle Blood Glucose Meter" and "FreeStyle Flash Blood Glucose Meter”. This means that home users may get readings that they have low glucose levels when in fact everything is satisfactory.
The blood sugar concentration or blood glucose level is the amount of glucose (sugar) present in the blood of a human or animal. It represents an important test for diabetics.
The strips have been manufactured by the company Abbot. The recall has been announced by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) via the Medwatch service.
According to Abbot, the affected test strips are from lots that hold expiration dates from between May 2014 and March 2015.
