A dandelion sprout, with roots and all, was removed by a surgeon last Monday from a toddler's ear canal in Beijing, China.
Gu Qinglong, a Beijing surgeon of the Capital Institute of Pediatrics, removed a dandelion sprout from the ear canal of a 16-month-old girl. The roots had embedded themselves in the tot's ear canal, causing her an itching sensation that alerted the parents.
The child's parents reported that "something like a seed" had fallen into their daughter's ear around four months ago, but they didn't think it required attention until the child started scratching her ear insistently.
The parents, who live in the Tongzhou District in Beijing, took the 16 month old to see an ear, nose and throat specialist at the Capital Institute of Pediatrics, where the doctor found a dandelion growing inside her ear.
