New Haven - Yale University is under lockdown after reports came in of a gunman. Police are searching the Ivy League school's campus in New Haven, Connecticut.
According to a Yale University management alert and a police interview on News8, police are searching Yale University after New Haven Police were notified by an anonymous call lasting a few seconds from a man using a pay telephone that a person with a 'long' gun had been seen wandering around the campus.
In an interview on News8 a police officer said the campus is closed for holidays so the dorms will be locked and difficult to enter by an intruder. No specific description of the person has been handed out yet as various descriptions have been given and no confirmed sightings have been made. One student on campus is reported as saying there really aren't many students left on campus. The students and staff still on campus have been told to find 'shelter.'
An updated message to the Yale Community, November 25 - 12:54 p.m. said: "There is no change in the campus status. We do not have additional information at this time. Those on campus should continue to shelter in place."
Many local shops in New Haven have also locked down and, according to News8, "a lot is going on regarding law enforcement."
More than 11,250 students attend the Ivy League university.
