Kim Kardashian's eBay auction for typhoon victims sparks outrage

By Leo Reyes     Nov 23, 2013 in Environment
Kim Kardashian's eBay auction of her designer clothes and accessories has sparked criticism and outrage on social media for giving only 10 percent of the proceeds to victims of the Typhoon Haiyan and keeping the other 90 percent.
The 33-year-old reality star turned music video vixen tweeted a link to a letter posted on her personal website touting her fundraising efforts, writes.
"Hi guys, this is a very special auction because a portion of the proceeds of my eBay auction are going to International Medical Corps, a nonprofit organization that provides critical health services on remote islands where families are struggling to access medical care and basic resources like food, clean drinking water and vital medications," she explained.
She did not mention that that "portion" was a mere 10 percent.
"The proceeds will go directly to the communities they’re serving in the Philippines and will help typhoon survivors get access to medical care and ultimately save lives," she noted before adding, "My prayers and thoughts are with those affected by the typhoon. Check out my eBay auction here and support those who need our help in the Philippines. Xo."

Kim I noticed your only giving 10% of the ebay sales to Philippines, dont you think it would be more helpful and less of a publicity stunt to give all 100% of the proceeds! God Bless You

Kim I think what your doing is great but honestly only 10 percent? yes I know it is still more than they would have but 90 percent is far more than is needed for over head exspenses. I am a huge fan of your but this disappoints me thinking you say it is for the Philippines and you get 90 petcent vs 10 percent Philippines. If there is another reason please lets us know.

The majority of the clothes given specifically to Kim Kardashian have been GIVEN to her. She didn’t even buy most of them. This family is so greedy and plain stupid, it makes me sick to think that people buy into attention. She’s a pretty face with a mom who sees dollar signs. Keeping 90% for yourself, when you make millions is disgusting! Shame on her, and that IQ handicapped family.

I used to be a huge fan, but I hope they give you back your insulting “portion of the proceeds” which is a measly 10% back to you so you can choke on it. You leading on that it’s for a good cause to pursue people to buy is degrading. I hope you get to keep your money, you probably need it more than they do.

Hi – why aren’t you giving 100% of the proceeds to charity? You have more than enough wealth that you surely do not need that 90%? Give to the people who need this. Surely that 90% will just go on buying more clothes and make-up…give it to people who need clean drinking water and shelter.

Some commenters could not resist comparing Kardashian to British couple David and Victoria Beckham, who donated 100 percent of the proceeds of sale of their designer items to the victims of the deadly typhoon that struck central Philippines last Nov. 8.
