British football legend David Beckham and fashion designer-wife Victoria Beckham donated 20 boxes of clothes and shoes to the British Red Cross to raise funds for the victims of Super Typhoon Haiyan which battered central Philippines last Nov. 8.
Designer shoes, clothes and bags belonging to the celebrity couple were sold in a Red Cross charity outlet in Chelsea for as low as $160 each.
The sale created long queues around the Red Cross outlet location with buyers arriving in the shop two hours before the opening of the store.
The donated items were sold out in less than a day as buyers took turns in choosing their preferred items.
"We're going to close early because we'll be sold out -- everything has gone really quickly," Red Cross spokeswoman Laura Hinks told AFP.
"The clothes were priced very reasonably. David and Victoria wanted everyone to have an opportunity to buy something."
Earlier Victoria posted her picture on Twitter sitting beside the boxes of goods for donation to the Red Cross.
"Everyone has something in their closet they were holding onto, a dress, suit, or pair of shoes they thought they might wear again," she said in a statement.
"Dig them out, bag them up, drop them off and give someone else the chance to buy them, raising much needed funds for the Red Cross aid effort."
As the Red Cross charity sale continues, Victoria's husband David arrived in Macau, China on Friday and expressed his desire to watch the fight between Manny Pacquiao and Brandon RIos at the Cotai Arena of the Venetian Resort and Casino Saturday night (Sunday in Macau, China).
Beckham, who is rooting for Pacquiao said he had conversation with the Filipino star and talked about the importance of his upcoming fight especially for his countrymen who were affected by Super Typhoon Haiyan.
“I am a huge fan of Manny,” said Beckham who retired from professional football last May.
“I know how much this fight means to him this weekend, especially with everything that has happened to the Philippines the last couple of weeks.”
The death toll from the onslaught of Super Typhoon Haiyan has reached over 5,000 as search and rescue operations continue two weeks after the deadly typhoon's landfall.
