article imageHP preparing for Black Friday with $89 7-inch Android tablet

HP and Intel are teaming up this holiday season to deliver some nifty hardware at rock bottom prices. More specifically, the HP Mesquite will be the featured item in several major retailers.
HP had been too heavily focused on the personal computers market and ignored the tell-tale signs of the rising popularity in mobile computing. Intel, on the other hand, also had been too focused on producing power efficient processors for personal computers and ignored the opportunity to make processors for mobile devices until recently.
As both seek to gain a market share in the mobile computing industry consisting of tablets and smartphones, they plan on competing by offering low-cost solutions especially targeting the $100 cap.
HP and Intel announced the HP Mesquite, a 7-inch tablet running an Intel processor going on sale for only $89. However, the Mesquite will not be equipped with Intel's latest Bay Trail, nor it's previous year Clover Trail. Instead, it will feature a slightly older processor.
The older processor means less application and graphic performance. Also, it would also mean lower resolution, smaller internal storage, and possibly an older version of Android. However, due to the under-100 dollar price tag, this will encourage consumers to consider such a tablet for basic web browsing and application usage functions.
Currently, only Walmart expects to carry the 7-inch HP Mesquite for Black Friday. There has been no confirmation from other retailers, but Costco will be carrying a Dell tablet also running an Intel processor.
