British football star David Beckham arrived in Macau, China on Friday and expressed his desire to watch the fight between Manny Pacquiao and Brandon RIos at the Cotai Arena of the Venetian Resort and Casino Saturday night (Sunday in Macau, China).
Pacquiao and Beckham crossed path when the popular footballer travelled to the Philippines in 2011 with the entire L.A. Galaxy team to play with Azkals, the Philippine national football team.
Beckham, who is rooting for Pacquiao said he had conversation with the Filipino star and talked about the importance of his upcoming fight especially for his countrymen who were affected by Super Typhoon Haiyan.
“I am a huge fan of Manny,” said Beckham who retired from professional football last May.
“I know how much this fight means to him this weekend, especially with everything that has happened to the Philippines the last couple of weeks,” Beckham said.
Aside from Beckham, other international celebrities including Paris Hilton, Alec Baldwin, former Philippine President Joseph Estrada, among others, will be at ringside to watch the Pacquiao-Rios fight.
Filipino-American singing sensation Jessica Sanchez will sing the national anthems on invitation by Pacquiao.
Sanchez is one of the most sought-after vocalists to sing the US national anthem in many important national events, including the Democratic National Convention last year, the opening of the 2012 NBA Finals, PBS Memorial Day concert in Washington, D.C. and the Pacquiao-Bradley fight in Last Vegas last year, among others.
