Atlanta hip-hop duo Andre 3000 and Big Boi of Outkast are returning to the big stage this spring since a hiatus in 2007.
There has been a lot of buzz around the possibility of Outkast performing at next year's Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival but no confirmation as of yet. While some news sources are reporting this Coachella performance is still speculation, Consequence of Sound is reporting it is official with a confirmation from longtime collaborator Sleepy Brown. Billboard has also at least confirmed the plans saying that the duo “is indeed in talks to reunite next year for the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.” This performance would be the start of a “reunion run” followed by additional festival dates.
Their last album, Idlewild, was released back in 2006 and since then “Big Boi and Andre 3000 have kept busy collaborating with other acts and releasing solo material,” according to an article in USA Today. These Grammy winning hip-hop artists are best known for their 2003 double album Speakerboxxx/The Love Below which earned them album of the year in 2004. The act followed up with the 2006 soundtrack to Idlewild.
Even though they have not been working in unison as Outkast, the pair is keeping busy with solo projects and collaborations. Big Boi has released two albums since parting ways with Andre, one in 2010 and one in 2012. Andre has not released any solo albums but has been collaborating with artists such as Drake, Ke$ha, and B.o.B. Billboard also says that Andre is set to star in the soon-to-be-released Jimi Hendrix bioptic, All is by My Side.
The dates for the annual Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival are April 12-14 and April 19-21. This year, the line up for the music and arts festival includes big artists like Blur, Janelle Monae, and Jurassic 5 to name a few. Outkast will certainly be welcomed back as many hip-hop fans anxiously await the future of the duo.
