article imageVideo: Horror spoof of Spanish Christmas lottery ad going viral

By Anne Sewell     Nov 20, 2013 in World
Every year at Christmas, Spaniards are treated to the popular "El Gordo" (the fat one) lottery, where everyone hopes to win millions in the big prize. This year's ad for the lottery was a bit "kitsch," so someone just had to do a parody.
The new ad for the Christmas lottery is out and about on YouTube. Each year, around 37 million Spaniards try their darndest to win the big prize on El Gordo, most, of course, with no success. Drawn on December 22 each year, the organizers have created a multimillion euro TV commercial, which is made to build up the anticipation of the Spanish people.
However, in their infinite wisdom, they put together a rather cringe-worthy video, which can be "enjoyed" above. While the singing by popular Spanish singers Montserrat Caballé, Raphael, Marta Sánchez, Niña Pastori and David Bustamante is great, the whole kitschy atmosphere, with the huge forced grins, wide-open surprised eyes of the crowds is just a tad over the top.

As with the recent response to Ana Botella, mayor of Madrid, with her Olympic bid "relaxing cup of café con leche” comment, someone just had to come up with a parody of it.
Several videos are showing up on YouTube, but the one below is the best so far where they have transformed a soppy Christmas scene into a real horror show.
Looks like this is going to go viral too as it has received almost 1.7 million views in just a few days.
Let us know in the comment section which one you prefer. The original at the top of this article which has received around 270,000 views, or the spoof below:
