Trainer Freddie Roach on Wednesday figured in a scuffle inside the gym of the Venetian Resort & Casino in Macau, China, with some members of Brandon Rios's entourage which include Trainer Robert Garcia and Rios' Conditioning Coach Alex Ariza.
Roach is the trainer of eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao while Robert Garcia is the trainer of Brandon Rios.
Pacquiao and Rios are scheduled to face each other in the ring on Saturday (Sunday in Macau, China) in a rare HBO pay-per-view boxing event event.
It appears that Roach was on his way to the gym when he noticed that Garcia, Ariza, Rios and some members of their team were still inside the gym when they were supposed to be out as per agreed schedule to make way for Pacquiao and his team to practice in the gym.
Apparently Roach got irritated after seeing the Rios team still using the gym when their time has already elapsed.
"Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports, quoting witnesses, said the fight started at 11 a.m. when Roach entered the gym for Pacquiao’s workout. By then, Brandon Rios just wrapped up his training," Philstar.com writes.
"Roach reportedly demanded Garcia to leave the gym immediately, but the latter asked for some time to wrap things up, to which the former disagreed," the report added.
Video by Elie Sechbach of the reported altercation between the two camps can be viewed here.
The report did not say if the scuffle is part of the scenes to hype the fight which will be shown live in the US on HBO pay-per-view.
