Butterball reports shortage of large turkeys for Thanksgiving

By Kevin Fitzgerald     Nov 18, 2013 in Food
Garner - Butterball, which is one of the world's largest suppliers of fresh turkeys, recently announced that there may be less large, fresh turkeys that are available to consumers for Thanksgiving this year.
According to ABC News, the company specifically stated that they are experiencing a shortage of turkeys that weigh 16 pounds or more and that they plan to cut deliveries to supermarkets by as much as 50 percent.
In a statement obtained by the Huffington Post, Butterball explains that the shortage is due to the fact that many of the company's turkeys have not gained as much weight this year.
UPI reports that Butterball is only experiencing a shortage with fresh turkeys and that the company's supply of frozen large turkeys remains plentiful.
