article imageFormer neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman arrested

By Scott Tuttle     Nov 18, 2013 in Crime
Months after his acquittal this summer for the shooting of 17-year old Trayvon Martin, George Zimmerman returns to the spotlight yet again.
The former neighborhood watchman was taken into custody at about 1 p.m. today after deputies of the Seminole County Sheriff's Department responded to a disturbance call at his Florida home. Details are still pending, but will be released by the sheriff's department as soon as the arrest report is available.
Zimmerman will be booked in the John E. Polk Correctional Facility.
Since being acquitted for the murder of Trayvon Martin back in July, George Zimmerman has been in and out of the news several times, most recently for a 911 call made by his estranged wife Shellie. According to Shellie Zimmerman, George Zimmerman assaulted his father-in-law and then threatened the two of them with a gun back in September. Zimmerman was arrested, but later released due to lack of evidence in the follow-up investigation.
Zimmerman has also been pulled over three times for traffic violations since his acquittal; twice for speeding and once for having car windows that were too darkly tinted.
Zimmerman had his share of brushes with the law prior to the Trayvon Martin incident as well. In 2005, he was arrested and forced to take anger management classes after assaulting a police officer who was in the process of arresting his friend.
