article imageNFL Scores: Broncos hand Chiefs first loss of season 27-17

By Larry Seely     Nov 18, 2013 in Sports
Denver - Sunday nights game between Kansas City and Denver was billed as the NFL game of the year. The Broncos offense proved just too strong and they came away with a 27-17 victory, handing the Chiefs their first loss of the year.
Peyton Manning guided the offense to over 400 yards as the veteran quarterback completed 24 of 40 passes for 323 yards and one touchdown, but he also escaped the game without another hit to his injured ankles as the offensive line provided excellent production against the tough Chiefs defense.
Kansas City figured they would need to move the ball and score some points, but the pass defense for Denver was tight and limited any big plays. Alex Smith finished the game 21 of 45 for 230 yards and two touchdowns, but a strong start by Denver limited the Kansas City running game, especially in the second half and that proved costly against Manning and company.
Both teams are now 9-1 on the year and the battle for the AFC West will likely come down to their next meeting in two weeks in KC. The Chiefs will need to find more offense by then and the defense will need to put more pressure on Denver or risk trying to make the Super bowl with a wild card berth in the NFL Playoffs.
