By Markos Papadatos     Nov 16, 2013 in Entertainment
Musical duo Twenty One Pilots is comprised of Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun. They are signed to the record label Fueled by Ramen.
Their latest album, Vessel, features the singles "Holding On To You" and "House of Gold." It was written by the duo and produced by Greg Wells. It fared well on the Billboard Hot Alternative album charts, thus making it in the Top 10, as well as No. 15 on the Hot Rock album charts.
Over the course of their musical journey, Twenty One Pilots has played for numerous festivals including Lollapalooza, Outside Lands, as well as Bunbury and Bonnaroo, before they joined Fall Out Boy on their stadium tour.
Josh Dun from the duo took some time from his schedule to chat about their music.
He noted that their latest offering was written a while back at Tyler's basement and they wrote it with their live show in mind.
Although he is a fan of the entire project, he revealed that one of his personal favorite tunes on there is "Ode To Sleep," the opening track. "That was really fun. I am excited to be a part of something that I enjoy. That's a cool thing," he said. "Another one that I really love is a song called 'Car Radio.' In the live show, for a new audience, that is the turning point of the set for people."
Their year, the duo was nominated for the "MTV Artist to Watch" Video Music Award (VMA) for their music video for "Holding On To You." "That was really cool, since I grew up watching MTV and discovering art. Growing up, MTV was one of the very few outlets that I would go to find new music and be inspired creatively by videos and interviews," he said. "I have always been a huge believer of what videos can do. This past year, MTV has given us a lot of support. It is really cool to have that relationship with them."
On June 19, 2013, they played for iHeartRadio live at the iHeartRadio Theater in New York City, which was presented by P.C. Richard and Son. "It was really cool. It's always fun playing in New York. iHeartRadio has been a really cool supporter of us, which is awesome," he said.
