A major Syrian rebel commander belonging to an Islamic faction was killed after a government airstrike. As well as killing the commander, the airstrike left two other high ranking members of the organisation wounded.
The airstrike took place in the northern province of Aleppo, where Syrian troops have been making gains over the past month after a newly-launched offensive in the province, mainly controlled by rebels.
According to activists on the ground, the airstrike targeted the rebel commander, Youssef al-Abbas, as he was holding a meeting with other ranking members at a former army base that had been captured.
The rebel commander belonged to the one of the main Islamic factions in the north, the al-Tawhid brigade.
