Canberra - A demo iPad in a Vodaphone shop in Australia unexpectedly exploded earlier this week.
The sparks and smoke caused by the combustion forced shoppers to flee the store in Canberra, whilst the fire department dealt with the situation.
According to a Vodaphone spokesperson, a “burst into flames” emanated from the charging port of the Apple device.
Luckily, everyone came out from the incident unscathed, however the iPad was not so lucky, as its casing melted and its screen was ruined. A picture of the mangled iPad can be seen here. The device is believed to be an iPad Air, which was released at the beginning of the month.
An Apple representative reportedly arrived after the incident to investigate the cause of the incident.
This is not the first instance of Apple products inexplicably malfunction, sometimes with deadly consequences.
One Chinese woman was allegedly electrocuted to death by her iPhone 5, while another woman from China suffered injuries after her new iPhone screen exploded.
