Microsoft has announced a list of confirmed entertainment apps that will be available for the Xbox One between its November 22 launch day and Spring 2014.
Yesterday, Sony had announced that it has 11 entertainment apps readily available for the November 15 launch of its Playstation 4 next-generation console. If you choose to get the Playstation 4, you can access these apps such as Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, Crunchyroll, etc. Today, Microsoft has given an announcement of what entertainment apps will be available for its Xbox One next-generation console come between November 22 and Spring 2014. The available apps will be different depending on what country you are living in. This is because most of the apps are television-based.
The apps will be available in the following countries: United States, Canada, Australia, United Kingdom, Austria, Brazil, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, and Spain.
Xbox One consoles in the US will be able to access the following apps: Amazon Instant Video, Crackle, CWTV, ESPN, FOX NOW, FXNOW, HBO GO, Hulu Plus, Machinima, MUZU TV, Netflix, Redbox Instant by Verizon, Target Ticket, TED, The NFL on Xbox One, Twitch, Univision Deportes, Verizon FiOS TV, and VUDU.
Canadian consoles will get these apps: CinemaNow, Crackle, Machinima, MUZU TV, Netflix, Rogers Anyplace TV, Sportsnet, TED, The NFL on Xbox One, and Twitch.
UK gets the following: 4oD, Amazon\LOVEFiLM, Blinkbox, Crackle, Demand5, Europsort Machinima, MUZU TV, Netflix, NOW TV, TED, Twitch, and Wuaki.tv.
All Xbox One markets will get Xbox Fitness, Xbox Video, Xbox Music, Internet Explorer, Skype, SkyDrive, and Upload. Digital Journal recently reported that those with an Xbox Live Gold subscription will be able to use the Xbox Music app for free; but the app will have periodic advertisements showing up.
With regards to Skype, Gamespot reports that Xbox Live Gold subscribers will receive six months of free calling for Skype. In addition, you can place up to 100 free minutes a month to mobiles and landlines with the six months of Skype.
In preparation, some of the people from Microsoft give a video navigation through the Xbox One's dashboard. You can navigate one screen that lets you access your games and apps. One aspect of the demonstration is allowing you to navigate the dashboard with the Kinect peripheral.
If you can't wait to check out the Xbox One, Gamespot reports that you can check out the console at any available Microsoft Store. With the entertainment apps, users can earn achievements by using the Xbox One to watch movies, TV shows, and other online streaming content. So far, everything seems to be very attractive in regards to the Xbox One's capabilities and features; however, there is one drawback.
IGN reports that on day one, you will have to install the “day one update.” Without the update, you can't do much with the Xbox One console. Microsoft said that you can't do anything without the update. It stresses that the day one update is very crucial; without it, according to what IGN reports, the Xbox One can be considered a fancy and expensive paperweight.
