Bergamo - The 13-year-old boy had been spending too much time playing games on his Playstation, and not enough time studying. When he received a bad grade at school, his father destroyed his Playstation. The boy was so upset he jumped from the balcony.
According to Rainews24.it (in Italian) the boy threw himself from the balcony of his home in Bergamo, northern Italy, after his father smashed the Playstation games console.
The newspaper reported that the father had blamed his son's poor school performance on spending too many hours playing video games.
Il Messaggero reports in Italian that after falling ten meters from the balcony, the boy suffered fractures in various parts of his body.
The boy was taken to Bergamo's Papa Giovanni XXIII hospital in a serious condition. His prognosis at present is "guarded" although doctors say that his injuries are not life threatening.
This is not the first case of a teenager who, in a similar situation, makes a gesture of despair and attempts suicide. Rainews24 mentions an incident in India on October 25, where a 17-year-old hung herself after a quarrel with the family. She had done badly at school and her parents had forbidden her to use Facebook.
