Wolfville - Devour! The Food Film Fest opens November 13 with the Five Senses Gala, an event open to the public featuring 11 of Nova Scotia's Finest Chefs.
The Devour! Festival program, Atlantic Canada’s answer to the Sundance Festival, features five jam-packed days of food and film with 70 films handpicked from over 200 submissions, some of the nation’s top chefs and many other delicious food and film events.
Food Network star Bob Blumer will open and host the opening gala reception presented by Taste of Nova Scotia at Acadia University’s Fountain Commons. His current show, World’s Weirdest Restaurants finds Bob criss-crossing the globe in search of macabre, weird and wacky eating establishments. He also holds more Guinness Book of World Records titles than any other living human! Following the Five Senses Gala, Bob Blumer will introduce the opening gala screening of The Fruit Hunters by Canadian director Yung Chang, starring Bill Pullman.
Restaurants and food producers in the area were given the opportunity to sponsor the festival on a number of levels.
One such sponsor, The Port Pub and Bistro in Port Williams, Nova Scotia is a screening partner and has focused on Devour week celebrations, making it a very busy week for Chef Lewis Acker and his team of talented cooks.

Chef Acker says, “The Port is proud to sponsor Devour.” Devour will bring in people from all over the world from the food and film industry as well as movie goers and foodies. “This is a chance for not only The Port Pub and Bistro to showcase our culinary talents, but also for our region as a whole. It’s an economic boost for all of us.”
Chef Acker is one of the 11 talented chefs who will be showcased at the opening gala. “The opening gala is the appetizer of Devour! Like any great meal, it starts with a great appetizer. The Port Pub will be serving Smoked Apricot Glazed Duck Breast with poached pears made with ingredients from Atlantic Canada,” says Acker.
Mr. Acker says, " As soon as this night is over then we turn to Thursday evening where we will be holding Champlain's Feast, The Order of Good Beer Dinner featuring a four course dinner with each course complimented by a selection of Sea Level Brewing ale", the on-site brewery.
Friday evening, The Port Pub's Devour screening of the documentary, "Hey Bartender" is scheduled for 9 pm at Al Whittle Theater in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. Hey Bartender trips through some of the world’s most infamous cocktail bars with commentary from their renowned bartenders. Or as one mixologist so aptly puts it–the world as seen through the prism of a cocktail glass. This is access to some of New York’s most exclusive hot spots, including Employees Only, and this is officially the rebirth of the cocktail cool.
Chef Michael Howell, Executive Director of Devour!, festival partner and Managing Director said in a press release, “Whether on screen, in your hand or in your belly, this collision of food and art will satisfy every craving."
