Orlando - An Orlando gas station worker had a lucky escape when his mobile phone blocked a bullet fired at him by a robber. The attempted robbery took place last Monday morning at a Hess station in Winter Garden, Orlando.
The Florida gas station clerk was approached by the criminal who asked him to help locate a beverage.
As the clerk attempted to help the man, he pulled out a pistol and demanded the contents of the safe. When the clerk and his co-worker were unable to open the safe, the man ran off firing his gun at the gas station clerk. The gas station clerk doubled over with the force of the bullet but the HTC smartphone in his pocket took the impact of the bullet.
Lt Scott Allen from Winter Garden Police Department said: "I've seen individuals get shot with low-caliber handguns and I've seen it be life ending. So for this gentleman to be as lucky as he is, it's a good day for us."
