article imageAmerican Country Awards make field more crowded

By Tim O'Brien     Oct 30, 2013 in Entertainment
Nashville - The entertainment landscape is dotted with award shows. It is a way of life and can be big business. But there comes a time when they overlap and are not needed.
One such example of that is the American Country Awards (ACA). The ACA nominations were announced and go ahead and confuse them with the upcoming Country Music Awards (CMA) or even the Academy of Country Music Awards (ACM).
The CMAs will be handed out on Nov. 6 so enter this announcement and it can muddy up the waters a bit. And it notes American in the title which is always tricky. What exactly does that mean? Keith Urban is from Australia, so does he qualify? Never mind, as the American Music Awards have the same problem. Those need to be retired, along with the People's Choice Awards and a few others. But that is for another day.
Here are the nominees, as Taylor Swift leads the way with eight. One would think that would lead the story, but these awards are just more of the same, so bury it. Florida Georgia Line and Blake Shelton each earned seven nominations.
The fan voting on many of these is another reason why they should simply be put out to pasture. Even some major country award allow the open vote to take place it skew that category, which just so happens to be the biggest one of the evening - Entertainer of the Year. An industry award show should stay that way.
Trace Adkins and Danica Patrick will host. The special will air live from Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas Tuesday, Dec. 10 on Fox.

It seems like any country song could have been up for that last category and an interesting note is that they split out some categories. For example, they will have a female and male single of the year. Perhaps all is not lost on this one. Then again, it further splits the genders. Oh well.
