Carmel - How the mighty have fallen: Damon Dash's former home shows how far the former rap mogul's spiral into financial ruined has taken him.
Damon Dash was once at the pinnacle of the Hip-Hop world, boasting that he was worth $50 million, as co-founder of the Roc-A-Fella records empire Dash lived a lavish lifestyle. However a look at his rented mansion shows how far the record producer has fallen.
Court documents show the former Hip-Hop mogul owes $162,000 in back rent after missing numerous $15,000 a month payments at his Carmel, New York mansion according to Vibe. The landlord of the mansion, which boasts a swimming pool and recording studio on a sprawling property has filed a lawsuit against the 42-year-old Damon Dash. According to the suit, carpeting was ruined and clothing was left strewn around the home as if it was trash.
"(Damon Dash) held the house hostage," for a year-and-a-half while he dodged rental payments before "simply abandoning the property." Thomas Mullaney an attorney for the landlord stated.
Dash begged a judge to delay his eviction so he could sort out his financial mess, however his pleas apparently fell on deaf ears. Landlord Elad Yoran apparently doesn't believe Dash is in that much finacial distress.
"When I look online, he’s rolling around in a chauffeured Roll Royce, and he’s riding in a private plane." Yoran stated.
Landlord Elad Yoran was forced to place Dash's belongings, including jewelry, bongs, clothing and art work in storage.
"He’s not living the life of someone who is trying to keep their expenses down so they can pay their obligations," Mullaney said.
Damon Dash's meteoric rise in the Rap world occurred after he met Jay Z in 1994, the two went on to form Roc-A-Fella records in 1996. Three years later the two formed Rocawear, and Damon Dash went on to own over 1,300 pairs of shoes.
Dash went on to owe over $2 million in unpaid taxes in the State of New York, as well as failing to make obligations on a $237,058 loan, owing money to fashion designers and even bodyguards.
Damon Dash failed marriage to fashion designer, Rachel Roy has costed him $24,000 a month in alimony. While Jay Z has gone on to great success following the sale of Roc-A-Fella records, and ex-wife Rachel Roy's signature line of clothes is a hit with First Lady Michelle Obama and Kate Hudson, Damon Dash's own BluRoc label has failed.
The record mogul who once owned a Maybach today has had his Chevrolet Tahoe repossessed after failing to pay its $714.99 note.
