A rumor has been circulating among the video game community that 'Call of Duty: Ghost' may operate at a lower resolution for the Xbox One.
According to a Reddit thread; several respected game critics have been dropping hints that Microsoft is trying to hide some damaging information regarding the Xbox One.
The thread also claims that Microsoft has not been handing out Xbox One versions of highly-anticipated games for review (this is the video game equivalent of denying film critics a per-screening).
During the discussion, rumors had emerged that the Xbox One version of Call of Duty: Ghost will be running at the low resolution of 720p. Meanwhile it has been confirmed that the PlayStation 4 version will run at 1080p.
According to IGN.com, the theory has been reinforced by claims by NeoGAF members over the fact that their previews of the game were shown using a PlayStation 4. Adding to the speculation has been confirmation from Erik Kane (game writer for Forbes.com) and Jeremy Conrad (Writer for FuriousFanboy.com) about a review embargo by Microsoft.
Activision and Infinity Ward have not confirm nor denied the rumors.
Call of Duty: Ghosts will be released on November 5 for all major consoles but gamers can pre-order now. It will be the tenth game in the popular series that has sold over 100 million copies and on average has 40 million active players a month.
