article imageReview: Pop star Katy Perry excels on new studio album 'Prism' Special

By Markos Papadatos     Oct 26, 2013 in Entertainment
Pop mega-star Katy Perry released her latest studio album "Prism" on October 22, via her record label, Capitol Records. She co-wrote all 13 tracks on the album.
Prism album opens with her empowering and chart-topping lead single "Roar" and it is followed by "Legendary Lovers."
"Birthday" is upbeat and a great deal of fun, with a catchy melody. "Walking On Air" is stunning tune that is fitting to heard on dancefloors across America.
The gorgeous ballad "Unconditionally" is Perry's latest radio single and it deserves to reach the top of the charts as well. It's an ode to unconditional love and Perry nails it.
"Dark Horse" is a collaboration with rapper and songwriter Juicy J. "This Is How We Do" is melodically reminiscent of a quintessential vocal by pop songstress Ke$ha.
One of my personal favorites on the album "International Smile," was inspired by Perry's close friend and world-class dance DJ Mia Moretti.
The ballad "Ghost" has a haunting vibe to it, yet she sings it beautifully. The mid-tempo and tender "Love Me" showcases her breathy and soft vocals. Equally noteworthy is "This Moment," which consists of strong instrumentals.
Yet another stellar cut is "Double Rainbow," which is worthy of the repeat button on mp3 players and CD players. It is such a soothing and relaxing vocal.
It closes with the piano-driven yet vulnerable ballad "By the Grace of God."
The Verdict
In summation, Katy Perry's Prism is refreshing and well-crafted. It shows a more mature and serious side than her previous album Teenage Dream, which was also remarkable. She connects well with her audience as she sings about stories of heartbreak and joy. Many of her listeners can easily find themselves relating to the majority of the songs on this project. With this CD, Perry proves that she is the reigning queen of modern pop music. It garners an A rating.
