article imageYoung Brit spends $200,000 visiting every country in the world

By Lesley Lanir     Oct 25, 2013 in Travel
A young man from Britain traveled for five years, spent over US$200,000, and became the youngest person ever to visit 196 countries.
James Asquith, 24-years-old, has become the youngest person to visit 196 independent countries out of the 257 named countries in the world. He funded his five-year excursion mainly by finding part-time jobs and working in bars and hostels abroad.
Now a London banker, the Daily Mail reports Asquith as saying: 'I loved the adrenaline that went with it - but I always seemed to pick the worst timing to visit a lot of the countries. 'I went to Libya three weeks after Gaddafi fell, Afghanistan two weeks after the terrorist bombings in Mazar-i-Sharif, but generally I just found a local and tried to get an insight into each country.'
Has James Asquith finished traveling? Has he lost the travel bug? Apparently not since he told the Daily Mail that he has a few more destinations in mind and is hoping to go to Tahiti, Easter island, and Antarctica next year.
What or who determines what is a country and what isn't — an interesting point to discuss amongst yourselves.
