By Markos Papadatos     Oct 25, 2013 in Entertainment
Alan White, the drummer of the legendary progressive rock band, Yes, chatted about the legendary rock group's future endeavors, which include their headlining cruise next April titled "Cruise to the Edge."
Iconic progressive rock bands Yes and Marillion will lead an all-star lineup on the second annual "Cruise to the Edge," aboard the MSC Divina, one of the world’s newest and amazing floating festival ships, which can accommodate over 3,000 passengers plus crew.
It will depart from Miami, Florida on April 7, 2014, for five days and nights of live music. "We did this last year and the band had such a blast. We really had a great time," White said. "We take off from Miami and we sail overnight. There are four or five stages on the boat and the bands play from day until the evening. It is a lot of progressive rock and it a lot of fun since fans mingle with the people on the boat."
The cruise will feature non-stop entertainment, activities and events. Passengers are going to be treated to multiple concert sets from Yes, who helmed "Cruise To The Edge" in March of 2013. It will include Marillion, Steve Hackett and Genesis Revisited, UK with Eddie Jobson, Queensryche, Tangerine Dream featuring Edgar Froese, Renaissance with Annie Haslam, among many others.

White revealed that he has been a part of the group Yes for 42 years.
Regarding the key to longevity in the music industry, White remarked, "You need to keep standards up. Pretty much everybody in Yes is a high caliber musician, and we all strive for perfection and to give 110% every time."
Prior to the "Cruise To The Edge," the group will be touring a great deal next year. "We will tour a few weeks before the cruise in April. After that, we take a little vacation and then we do a European tour, where we play close to 35 shows. Then, we take a little time off and we do a six-week summer tour in America, and then we take another short break and we play Japan, Australia and Asia," he said.
On October 16, 2013, Yes was revealed as a nominee in the line-up for induction into the prestigious Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. "That was some great news that we got this last week. People can go online and vote for Yes, since there is a public vote this time around and it counts as one part of a vote," he said. "Hopefully the fans will vote for us for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. That would be another bonus for the band and I think they deserve it. I am looking forward to coming out on the road next year."
White shared that he currently resides in Seattle, Washington and noted that he is friends with the members and ex-members of the rock band Heart. "All of the members are good friends of mine," he said. "There are a lot of talented musicians in the Seattle area. I have my own band here and called White and it is just a lot of fun."
In 2006, White was awarded a "Lifetime Achievement Award" by the Guitar Center of Los Angeles.
On his day-to-day motivations, he stated, "I have a beautiful wife and both of my children are successful and both got married this year and I walk my Jack Russells every morning. I am currently in the writing process for our new Yes album."
