article imageFree wine in San Francisco, Thursday

By Alexander Baron     Oct 22, 2013 in Internet
San Francisco - If you are in the San Francisco area on Thursday, why not drop in on the Internet Archive for a free glass of wine and some enlightened gossip?
Currently the Internet Archive boasts 361 billion pages and growing. A posting on its blog earlier this month announced this party which begins at 6pm with cocktails and reception.
Being the Internet Archive there will also be some announcements, one that will concern you - hopefully in a very small way - is that of a new tool for fixing broken links.
How many times have you clicked on a link only to receive a 404 error? The guys and gals at the Archive claim to have developed a new tool that will replace this error automatically with an archived version of the dead link. That sounds, um, interesting. What about the wine though?
There is a well known connoisseur of the stuff who lives in Los Angeles, a mere 6 hour drive direct on the Interstate, who may have been invited. Hopefully though he won't attend, because on the evening of October 24 he should be in Croydon performing at the Fairfield Halls. I say hopefully, because as things stand, I will be in the audience.
