British actor Finn Jones is a guest at this weekend’s RingCon fantasy convention, which is being held at the Maritim Hotel, in Bonn, Germany.
Jones is best known for playing Ser Loras Tyrell, The Knight of Flowers, in the HBO series, Game of Thrones, which is based on the bestselling books by George R. R. Martin.
Jones will be in Bonn hot from an appearance on BBC Two’s The Sarah Millican Television Programme, where he, John Bradley (Samwell Tarly) and Kristian Nairn (Hodor) were discussing the fantasy genre with the show’s host, Sarah Millican.
The actor’s attendance was confirmed just a few days ago, following the disappointing news that two of his fellow Thrones stars had had to pull out of the event – James Cosmo (Lord Commander Jeor Mormont) for personal reasons and Charles Dance (Lord Tywin Lannister) because of work commitments.
Finn Jones made his professional TV debut in 2009, as Jamie in Hollyoaks Later, a spin-off drama from the long-running Channel 4 series, Hollyoaks, transferring to the parent show in 2010.
A couple of episodes of the ITV police soap, The Bill, followed later that same year, before he was cast in the Doctor Who spin-off series, The Sarah Jane Adventures – which starred the late Elisabeth Sladen in the title role – as a companion to Jo Jones, his grandmother, played by Katie Manning. Manning’s character originally appeared in Doctor Who, travelling as a companion herself, to the Third Doctor (Jon Pertwee) between 1971 and 1973.

While working on The Sarah Jane Adventures, Jones got to work with the Eleventh Doctor, Matt Smith, who had crossed over from Doctor Who for two episodes.
Jones said of the experience, “Working with Matt was a complete eye-opener, just to see him come on set so energetic, and so with-it, and so confident in what he does. He’s only a few years older than me [Smith was 27, Jones 23 at the time], and he’s a big inspiration [. . .] I’m just starting out, so I learn all I can.”
Jones has come a long way in a short time, having joined Game of Thrones in 2011, as Ser Loras Tyrell, The Knight of Flowers, the friend, lover and former squire of Lord Renly Baratheon.
In 2014, the 25-year-old will be seen, alongside Freddy Krueger actor Robert Englund, in the British movie, The Last Showing, a thriller written and directed by Phil Hawkins (The Street That Cut Everything).
As well as being an actor, Jones is a successful DJ and a member of the London-based DJ collective Human Effort.
Now in its twelfth year, the first RingCon convention was held in 2002.
