Rock band Alter Bridge's newest studio album "Fortress" is one powerful piece of musical work. It was produced by Michael "Elvis" Baskette.
It was released on October 8 in the United States through EMI and worldwide via Roadrunner Records. The band wrote all of the 12 songs on the album.
The group is made up of lead singer Myles Kennedy on rhythm and lead guitar, as well as Mark Tremonti on lead guitar and backing vocals, Brian Marshall on bass, as well as Scott Phillips on drums.
The CD opens with "Cry of Achilles," which features strong riffs and hooks. Myles Kennedy soars on lead vocals on the follow-up track and lead single "Addicted to Pain" and "Bleed It Dry" is a heavier and edgy tune.
"Lover" is an instrumental masterpiece and "The Uninvited" is electrifying.
It is followed by my two favorite songs on the album "Peace Is Broken" and "Calm The Fire," the latter of which is vocal perfection. Myles showcases the incredible control and range of his voice on "Calm The Fire."
In "Waters Rising," lead guitarist Mark Tremonti sings lead.
"Farther Than The Sun" and "Cry A River" are both melodically moving and "All Ends Well" is an upbeat and refreshing ballad.
It closes with the title track "Fortress," which is my third favorite song on the CD.
Overall, Alter Bridge does a superb job on Fortress. Myles Kennedy's voice is an eighth world wonder. His range is wide and incredible and the other band members are impressive too. The melodies, riffs and hooks are as captivating as ever. Michael "Elvis" Baskette does a brilliant job on the record's production yet again. It garners 5 out 5 stars. Well done Alter Bridge.
