article imageReview: Will Hoge gives his heart and soul on new 'Never Give In' album Special

By Markos Papadatos     Oct 17, 2013 in Entertainment
Country singer-songwriter Will Hoge released his newest studio album "Never Give In" on October 15. It also produced the entire project and wrote all the songs.
It opens with the sultry "A Different Man," where he sings about being a changed man. It is followed by the uplifting "Goodbye Ain't Always Gone" and the stellar title cut "Never Give In," which is certainly a favorite on the album.
"Still Got You On My Mind" is upbeat and melodically catchy. It features backing vocals from such talented female country songstresses as Kristen Kelly and Ashley Monroe, which elevate it to a higher level. I could listen to this tune on repeat all day.
Yet another highlight track is "Home Is Where The Heart Breaks," where his dynamic vocals are reminiscent of John Mellencamp.
"Pale September" is a solid vocal and its chorus has melodic elements of Pat Benatar's "Shadows of the Night," which ought to be taken as a compliment.
The album closes with "Bad Old Days" and "Damn Spotlight (Julia's Song) and the empowering song "Strong" is offered as a bonus track.
The Verdict
Overall, Will Hoge delivers on his latest studio album. He showcases a lot of heart and soul. He is certainly one of the genre's most prolific songwriters and one of the most soulful singers since James Otto. "Never Give In" is a keeper, and a must for any music fan's collection.
