article imageAmerican robs Canadian bank dressed as clown, gets 8 years

By Marcus Hondro     Oct 16, 2013 in Odd News
A Florida man was sentenced in the city of Winnipeg, Canada on Tuesday for robbing a bank. Rondell McGarrett Johnson pulled off the robbery while wearing a clown suit but will doubtless find nothing funny about his sentence.
Johnson got 8 years for his performance. Last December, he appeared at a Winnipeg credit union brandishing a gun and wearing a loopy mask, a pink-haired-wig, a large pair of Nerf balls for breasts and a polka-dot shirt, white gloves and a dress.

The 29-year-old, who's 230 pounds, committed the robbery a few days before Christmas. After hustling out of the credit union he wound up in a chase with police and discarded parts of his disguise as he ran. When he was caught only some 15 minutes after the robbery, the American was trying to stuff the money into a snowbank.
In court, he denied it was him under the disguise but was found guilty of robbery with a firearm, wearing a disguise with intent to commit a crime and with public mischief. Johnson has been nabbed for crimes in the U.S. and drug issues appear to be the motivator behind his actions. He had been known to use disguises in the past.
It's not known how he got into Canada or why he came. The judge gave him credit for 10 months served and reduced his sentence down to 7 years and 2 months.
