Phuket - International R&B star Rihanna may soon be adding "crime fighter" to her resume after her tweets led to the arrest of a bar owner in Thailand whose lewd shows she said left her "traumatized."
"Authorities found out about this bar the morning after Rihanna tweeted about it, but we were not able to catch them violating the law until Saturday night," local district chief Weera Kerdsirimongkon told the Associated Press . "We had been waiting for them and finally caught them red-handed."
The international pop star sparked an uproar last month after she posted a Twitter message about a “shocking” adult show she had witnessed during her recent trip to Thailand on the island of Phuket, 680 kilometers (420 miles) south of Bangkok.
“Either I was phuck wasted lastnight, or I saw a Thai woman pull a live bird,2 turtles, razors, shoot darts and ping pong, all out of her pu$$y,” Rihanna tweeted to her more than 32 million followers on Twitter on Sept. 21.
“And THEN she tried to turn water into coke in her $!! Uhh yea, all I’m saying is water went in and soda came out! I’m traumatized!!!” she added.
Rihanna’s comments and photos went viral, leaving tourist officials red-faced.
As a result, Thai authorities decided to check things out for themselves.
“We wanted to make sure we would see things as they really are and what illegal activities were going on,” Phuket Governor Maitri Inthusut said.
It led to the arrest of Warunyoo Jornmuang, owner of the Season bar on Soi Bangla, Kathu District Chief Veera Kerdsirimongkol told the Phuket Gazette.
He was charged with operating an entertainment venue without a permit and for providing a lewd show. He faces up to a month in jail and a fine of $1,900, the Associated Press reported.
This isn't the first arrest triggered by Rihanna's postings on social media. Last month a 20-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy were arrested for possessing a protected slow loris, a small squirrel-like animal, after Rihanna posted a picture on Instagram of herself with the primate on a night out in Phuket during her "Diamonds" tour.
Taking pictures with protected species - while common in tourist areas in the country - is officially illegal, the Phuket Gazette reported.
The charge carries a penalty of up to four years in prison and a 40,000 baht ($1,300) fine.
