The Lorien Legacies started with
I am Number Four, a popular novel that was quickly adapted to the big screen. The alien series starred young hunk Alex Pettyfer and quickly propelled the series to even greater heights. The first novel was closely followed by
The Power of Six and
The Rise of Nine. All three titles were embraced by the public and managed to both pique the interest of new readers and continue to grip old readerships.
The fourth book in the series,
The Fall of Five, was released on August 27, 2013. With the action-packed series earning a loyal readership, fans such as myself were looking forward to yet another rollercoaster ride in the lives of the Garde. Yet I was disappointed with how the fourth book shaped up.
To avoid saying spoilers, here’s a more generic statement: the characters were less developed in comparison with the previous titles. Had I not invested in the series, I would be bored with the fourth book and would put it back on the shelf. There were too many changing point of views and many of the statements showed teenage angst instead of the usual swagger I came to expect from the alien race.
Still, The
Fall of Five managed to surprise me at the very end. It also makes for a good read before another action-packed title, which I expect would come from the fifth book in the series. The
Fall of Five gave fans the breathing room they needed before once again going through the heart-stopping battle scenes in the next book. In the meantime, fans of the Lorien Legacies would better buy The Lost Files, a collection of short stories that would satiate a fan’s thirst for action scenes between the Garde and the Mogs.
The Fall of Five is available on Amazon at $14.91 for a paperback copy, and $6.99 for an electronic copy.
