article imageVideo: Assange on Latin America, NSA surveillance and Snowden

By Anne Sewell     Oct 12, 2013 in World
London - Eva Gollinger of RT Spanish interviewed Julian Assange at the Ecuadorian Embassy in London about US interception of communications in Latin America, Snowden, whistleblowers and journalists in general and also the upcoming film on WikiLeaks and Assange.
Assange says in the interview on October 11 that Edward Snowden is safe in Russia, but that he is more concerned over the fates of journalists who have helped him and who have published his leaks, including Sarah Harrison, the WikiLeaks representative who is in Russia with Snowden, and unsure whether she can safely return to the UK.
He shared his views on the NSA scandal in Latin America and also on the future of freedom of information in that region.
Speaking of the White House, he criticizes the US government for abusing its power more than any other in history. He stresses that President Barack Obama has prosecuted twice as many journalists under the Espionage Act than all the previous US presidents combined since 1917.
He also discusses the propaganda basis of the upcoming movie about WikiLeaks and Assange, The Fifth Estate.
The full transcript of the interview can be read on RT's website.
