Moscow - Courtesy of WikiLeaks, video clips have been released including a speech given by Edward Snowden, NSA whistleblower, at the dinner where he received the 2013 Sam Adams Award for Integrity in Intelligence, at an unnamed location in Moscow, Russia.
Digital Journal reported on Friday on the interviews with the various whistleblowers who had attended the event, where the 2013 Sam Adams Award for Integrity in Intelligence was handed to Edward Snowden, for his part in revealing the extent of NSA spying worldwide.
WikiLeaks was at the event and various video clips made — the above is a playlist that takes us through each of them. The first six clips are related to the award dinner and from then on more general videos appear.
The footage shows a secret meeting in an unknown location in Moscow. Above we see Snowden actually receiving the award, and in the video we hear him speak for the first time since he was granted asylum in Russia.
At the awards ceremony itself, he was given the symbolic candlestick by fellow NSA whistleblower Thomas Andrews Drake and the award document by Ray McGovern (ex-CIA), who said:
"Sam Adams Associates are proud to honor Mr. Snowden’s decision to heed his conscience and give priority to the Common Good over concerns about his own personal future. We are confident that others with similar moral fiber will follow his example in illuminating dark corners and exposing crimes that put our civil rights as free citizens in jeopardy.... Just as Private Manning and Julian Assange exposed criminality with documentary evidence, Mr. Snowden’s beacon of light has pierced a thick cloud of deception. And, again like them, he has been denied some of the freedoms that whistleblowers have every right to enjoy."
Snowden then spoke about US government transparency and the dangers to democracy caused by the the NSA mass spying programs.
Around the table can be seen former CIA analyst Ray McGovern, former NSA executive Thomas Andrews Drake and former FBI agent Coleen Rowley, Jesselyn Radack of the Government Accountability Project, and Sarah Harrison of WikiLeaks — all of whom are whistleblowers in their own rights.
