Taipei - A recent report from Taiwan's military has made the island feel more than a little threatened by China's military spending.
According to The Wall Street Journal, the report from the island's military said on Wednesday that by 2020 China's military will possess the required means to invade the island.
The report claimed that the country will even be able to fight off any foreign aid, like the United States, that tries to stop an invasion of Taiwan, according to Reuters.
According to, Taiwan's 2013 National Defense report stated that China's arsenal, due to spending, has increased by the double digits over the past 20 years. Aspects that have also increased are China's ability to do conduct weapons research and manufacturing which the article states makes it an even graver threat to Taiwan.
The Wall Street Journal stated that this is the first time the island has made such a claim. The claim also comes at a time when Beijing and Taipei are experiencing a good relationship due to "tougher economic ties."
Other ways, according to Reuters, the report said China would upgrade to be able to invade Taiwan is through making it easier for them to land on the island and placing anti-aircraft missiles in the Taiwan Strait.
Reuters stated that the Chinese government assured the world there is no threat, and that that the military spending is necessary for "legitimate defensive purposes."
According to, military analysts said that China has 1,600 missiles aimed at Taiwan along with one-third of its army stationed directly opposite the island.
Despite the threat, according to, Taiwan has cut back on its military spending reducing the number of troops next year from 240,000 to 215,000.
