Country Music Hall of Famer Kenny Rogers released his latest studio album "You Can't Make Old Friends" on October 8 via his record label, Warner Music Nashville.
It opens with his current single, the title track, which is a duet with veteran country songstress Dolly Parton. Even 30 years after "Islands in the Stream" was a major hit for them, they still have great chemistry together with this new collaboration. "You Can't Make Old Friends" is certainly a highlight song on the album.
It is followed with the mid-tempo "All I Need is One" and "You Had To Be There."
"'Merica" is a neat song where Rogers pays tribute to our country. "Don't Leave Me in the Night Time" is more up-tempo and "Look at Me" is an eloquent love tune.
His vocals on "Neon Horses" are refreshing and "When You Love Someone" is another polished ballad in this collection.
It closes with "It's Gonna Be Easy Now."
The Verdict
Overall, Kenny Rogers' newest album "You Can't Make Old Friends" garners 4 out of 5 stars. He showcases a great deal of versatility on this record, as well as his wide range. It is a heart-felt and raw musical effort, which is definitely worth the purchase as "The Gambler" is an American treasure.
