article imageVideo: Storekeeper chases armed robber with machete

New York - When an armed robber tries to rob his store, this storekeeper wasn't having any of it. He bent down, picked up a machete, and chased the criminal down the street.
A store worker in a deli in Brentwood, New York refused to hand over money to an armed robber without a fight.
Now Suffolk County police are looking for the would-be robber, chased out of the store by a machete-wielding clerk.
CBS2 reported that the incident happened on September 25 (date on the video is wrong), at the Stop & Shop Deli on Crooked Hill Road.
A man wearing a mask walked into the store, pulled out his gun and demanded money from the store clerk.
In the surveillance video (above) the suspect can be seen holding open a bag for the money, as he fires a shot into the wall.
Seemingly unfazed by the threat, the clerk then pulls a large machete out from under the counter and runs towards the suspect.
He then proceeds to chase him away down the street.
According to the store owner, Elena Alvarado, she only got the machete a month ago and she said that her store had been broken into around a dozen times. She is afraid that this kind of incident can happen again.
According to another clerk at the store, the hero didn't realize that the gun was real.
“He thought it was a fake gun – it was a very small gun, so that’s why he reacted like that,” said Walter Martinez.
Apparently the machete-wielding clerk is now taking a few days off - possibly to avoid TV cameras more than anything.
“He don’t want to talk. He don’t want to show up,” Martinez said.
Apparently staff at the deli are debating the wisdom of chasing away an armed assailant with a machete.
“In some part, we’re proud of him, but in some way he risked his life,” Martinez said.
