Gothenburg - A man, working in a warehouse in the meatpacking district of Gothenburg was knocked unconscious when a trolley loaded with bacon toppled and fell on to him.
The accident happened at 7 a.m. Thursday in a business in the meatpacking area of Gothenburg. The man was working in the warehouse when a trolley carrying 500-600 kilograms of bacon toppled over on to him.
Aftonbladet (in Swedish) reported that Peter Adlersson, police press spokesman in Gothenburg's historic Gamlestaden district, said that the man was knocked unconscious and was taken to hospital by ambulance.
Adlersson told The Local: "I don't know exactly how it happened, but somehow the trolley fell over. I've never heard of anything like this."
"It's a rather unusual accident, you might say," he added.
The man was taken to Sahlgrenska University Hospital following the accident.
According to Adlersson, doctors later declared that the man had escaped the incident relatively unscathed.
"We've learned that he sustained minor back injuries as a result of the accident," Adlersson said.
A workplace accident report has since been filed by police, and this will be reviewed by the Swedish Work Environment Authority (Arbetsmiljöverket).
"They are the ones who will ultimately decide whether or not to launch a formal investigation," Adlersson said.
This is not the only work-related accident of this nature reported on Digital Journal this week. On October 4th there was a report of a Spanish worker crushed by 5,000 kilograms of falling grapes in Tomelloso in Ciudad Real, Castile-la Mancha, Spain. That worker was, unfortunately, not so lucky and passed away on the scene.
