Researchers in Mississippi discovered that two nuggets that they were examining consisted of 50 percent or less chicken muscle tissue.
According to Fox, the two chicken nuggets came from two national fast food chains located in Jackson, and one nugget from each box was preserved. They were also dissected and then stained, and then researchers examined them under a microscope.
According to CBS, the study, which was published in the September edition of the American Journal of Medicine, revealed that the one of the nuggets was only 50 percent muscle tissue, while the rest of it was made from nerves, blood vessels and fat,
According to UPI, the other nugget was only made from 40 percent muscle, with the rest of it being made of cartilage, fat and bone.
Researchers say that some companies have decided not to use low-fat chicken white meat, and instead choose to use an artificial mix of chicken parts. All it is is a chicken by-product that is high in sugar, calories, fat and salt that is very unhealthy, according to researchers.
