article image5 billion people will use cellphones by 2017

In 2017, 5.1 billion people from all around the globe will be using cell phones, which is almost 1 billion more users who are using them now.
According to Mashable, right now around 4.3 billion people are using mobile phones.
According to Totaltele, by 2017 half of the emerging market mobile users will own smartphones.
According to Statista, the Asia Pacific region currently has the most mobile users and will continue to do so in 2017, while North America will see the least growth in mobile users.
As of now there are around 2 billion people who use cell phones in Asia, and that numbers is expected to grow to almost 3 billion users. Right now there are around 270 million mobile phone users in North America, and that number could grow to 287 million.
