article image'The Fox' didn't just go viral it hit the US Billboard Top 10 too

In September, Norwegian brothers Vegard and Bård Ylvisåker, under the name of Ylvis, published a music video "The Fox." The song took off and the video went viral. But that's not all. Now they are in the US Billboard top 10.
'The Fox' is now Norway's second-ever US Top 10 (the last being by A-ha in 1985 with "Take on Me". OK, Miley Cyrus is still beating them with her "Wrecking Ball" at No. 3 but still, not bad going.
As reported on Digital Journal, the brothers made the video to promote the September 10 premiere of their talk show "I kveld med Ylvis" (or "Tonight with Ylvis").
They didn't really expect anything much from the song. In fact brother Bård said:
"This song is made for a TV show and is supposed to entertain a few Norwegians for three minutes - and that's all. It was done just a few days ago and we recently had a screening in our office. About 10 people watched - nobody laughed."
At the time of writing this, the YouTube video (included above) is sitting on over 80 million views and still climbing.
And now their electropop hit "The Fox" is making the US's Billboard top-ten list in an update on Wednesday, after it leaped from 13th to 8th place.
As said above, the last time anything like this happened was with A-ha's "Take on Me" way back in 1985.
"The Fox" has now also sold 71,000 digital downloads, which is up by 21 percent on last week. It has been streamed 9.5 million times, which is up by 34 percent on last week, making it this week's 'digital gainer' on the index.
The brothers have been working as a comedy and variety act in Norway since 2001, but only now are they receiving international recognition for their fun little song.
They were interviewed on iHeart Radio in Las Vegas where they also performed their song live.
Turns out they even appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres show at the end of September, which is one of the US's most-watched afternoon talk shows - she even sang with them:
Not bad for two guys who just wanted to entertain a few Norwegians!
