Syria's Information Minister: Assad will 'remain in office'

By Paul Iddon     Oct 1, 2013 in Politics
Syria's Information Minister Omran Al-Zohbi has said that Syria's President Bashar al-Assad will remain in office and has the right to run for reelection in 2014 if he wishes to.
Ahram Online quotes Zohbi as saying that, “Syria is staying put: the state, the nation, the people and the president. All the people call for President Bashar al-Assad to be president of this state, whatever the opposition, the Americans and the traitors say."
Daily Star Lebanon also carried a report which quoted Zohbi saying that it is “the presidents right to take a decision” on whether or not he wishes to run for reelection to the office of president in 2014.
He also said in a speech that the opposition against the Assad rule “does not have the courage to go to the polls.”
He went on to contend that if the opposition “had the courage, we would not have reached this point.”
