The Syrian regime has been cooperating with international weapons inspectors said the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) which is preparing to visit Syria's chemical weapons facilities.
The Washington Post quotes one of these OPCW officials saying that, “It's been good business so far. So far, our interactions with the Syrians have been very businesslike and efficient.”
The organization has also told us that the Syrian regimes declaration of its arsenal corresponds with the assessments held by many intelligence organizations.
CBS News tells us that a 20-man team is set to fly into Damascus whereby they will visit Syria's chemical facilities. Such a team could potentially disable and render useless most of the “key equipment of production, mixing and filling,” using tools as simple and as basic as a sledgehammer.
Anonymous officials were quoted stating that, “In the early stages, time is going to be of the essence.” The most important part of this coming mission they say is “to render unusable chemical weapons production capability and facilities.”
