Acclaimed country rapper Colt Ford is expected to release his upcoming studio album "Ride Through The Country Revisited" on October 1 via his label, Average Joes Entertainment.
This CD was originally released in 2005, but this edition features songs with Ronnie Dunn, Joe Diffie, Wynonna, John Anderson, John Michael Montgomery, Charlie Daniels and others. "I wasn't sure about doing this at first, since I wasn't sure about re-doing them or changing them. After I made the calls to some of the artists, and when they agreed to be a part of it, I was really excited. I think people are going to love this new project," he said.
"It is unbelievably to have other artists to be a part of what you do, since Charlie Daniels, Ronnie Donn and Wynonna are true legends of our genre. It was an incredible feeling."
His current single "Drivin' Around Song" is a collaboration with country mega-star Jason Aldean from his "Declaration of Independence" CD. Its video features cameos from Danica Patrick and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. "That turned out to be a huge song. Although Jason couldn't be a part of the video, we had Danica in it, and it was pretty fun to do," he said. "Danica is a really cool girl and I have a great deal of respect for her."
This fall, Ford will be touring with country duo Florida Georgia Line as part of their "Here's to the Good Times" tour, which will take place in 34 cities. "It's amazing what a year has done for those guys. Both Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley are great friends of mine and they have opened for me more than any other artist in our genre. It has been incredible to see all of their success and I am proud to see them doing so well. I am honored that they chose me to go out on tour with them, since they could have picked anybody. Now they are returning the favor and every show is sold out. It's really exciting," he said.
One of their tour stops will be at the Best Buy Theater in New York City, where they will be plays two shows in November. "I have never played in the city, so I couldn't be more excited to do that. Both dates sold out within a matter of minutes. To play in New York City in Times Square is going to be awesome," he said.
As a songwriter, Ford co-wrote two chart-topping singles, which include Brantley Gilbert's "Country Must Be Country Wide," as well as Jason Aldean's "Dirt Road Anthem," the latter of which garnered him a Country Music Association (CMA) award nomination for "Song of the Year." "That was unbelievable. There is a lot of luck involved to have a No. 1 song, and I am glad to have two of them. That was really cool and I have been really blessed," he said.
Ford also makes a cameo in Tyler Farr's "Redneck Crazy" music video along with Lee Brice and Willie Robertson from "Duck Dynasty." "Tyler played guitar with me for a year several years back, so we became great friends and he is still one of my closest friends. The video turned out awesome and it was funny and really fun. It goes completely with the song which is what makes it cool. We had a lot of fun shooting it," he said.
On July 5, Ford was featured in the Wall Street Journal. "That was pretty amazing," he said. "It is such an unbelievable, world-wide publication and one of the most respected out there."
Aside from being privileged enough to record a duet with Wynonna, Ford listed Miranda Lambert as his dream duet choice. "I really like Miranda and I am a big fan of hers. It would be cool to do something with her," he said.
Ford has his second annual "Colt Ford & Friends Celebrity Golf Classic," which benefits St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, on September 22-23 at Chateau Elan in Atlanta, Georgia.
Throughout his career, Ford has sold over one million albums, as well as millions of downloads of his music; moreover, he has over 15 million views on his YouTube channel, and he is approaching one million fans on Facebook.
A former professional golfer, Ford and his family live in Georgia, which is home to countless country artists such as Luke Bryan, Brantley Gilbert, Jason Aldean, Trisha Yearwood, Kip Moore and Travis Tritt. "Georgia has been great for artists and songwriters over the last few years," he said. "I don't know if it's in the water, but I'm going to drink some more of it," he added with a laugh.
He has his own flavor of "Knuckle" energy drink, a southern style sweet tea, which is carried in 800 Kum & Go convenience stores in the Midwest.
